Presented here are alternate bardic performances. See also the jester, an alternate bard class.
Some rules to note:
  • Some of these performances require an action other than standard to activate, as noted in the performance's description.
  • Some of these performances can't be maintained from round to round, they are instantaneous effects, as noted in the performance's description.
  • Like the standard performances, these performances rely on sight sight, sound sound, and language language, as noted in their descriptions.

Alternate Bardic Performances

Inspire Conscience   ♦   sight sound language
Level 1st; Replaces inspire courage
Action standard; Maintain No
Description
A bard can cause targets within 60 feet to feel the weight of conscience, reducing their combat effectiveness for a short time. The bard can effect a number of targets equal to ½ his bard level (minimum 1) with a single use of inspire conscience. As the bard performs, targets are inundated with feelings of guilt and remorse over past wrong doings, taking 1d8 + 1/bard level in temporary hit point damage that lasts as long as the bard maintains the performance. Each target receives a Will save (DC = 10 + ½ the bard's level + the bard's Charisma modifier) to halve the temporary hit point damage. For every three bard levels beyond 1st, the damage is increased by an additional 1d8 (2d8 at 4th, 3d8 at 7th, 4d8 at 10th, etc.).
Song of Purity   ♦   sound language
Level 1st; Replaces inspire courage
Action standard; Maintain Yes
Description
A bard can perform a song so pure that it bolsters listeners against harmful effects. Allies (including the bard) within 30 feet gain a +2 morale bonus on all saves. The bonus increases by +2 for every five levels of bard beyond 1st (+4 at 6th, +6 at 11th, +8 at 16th).
Jibe ♦ sight sound language
Level 3rd; Replaces inspire competence;
Action standard; Maintain Yes
Description
The bard can provoke a target into acting carelessly, lowering the targets AC and attack rolls by the bard's Cha modifier for one round. For every three levels of bard beyond 1st, the bard can target one additional creature with this ability. At the beginning of each affected creatures turn, the creature receives a Will save to resist jibe. After a successful save the target is immune to the bard's jibe for 24 hours.

The bard can use either audible or sight components; he chooses when activating the ability.
Lure   ♦   sight sound language
Level 3rd; Replaces inspire competence
Action standard; Maintain Yes
Description
A bard can lure in one target he has already fascinated (see PFRPG Core Rulebook), lulling the target toward him with soothing sounds and motions. Using this ability does not disrupt the fascinate effect, but it does require a standard action to activate (as well as a free action to maintain the fascinate effect). Luring a target does not count against a bard's daily use of bardic performance. A Will save (DC = 10 + ½ the bard's level + the bard's Charisma modifier) negates the effect. If the save fails, the target takes no other action than to move directly to the nearest square adjacent to the bard and the fascinate effect is ended.

So long as the target is under the effects of lure, any overt threats (such as being attacked or moving toward a obvious spiked pit trap) allow the target to make another save to negate the effect with a +4 bonus to the save. Damage from any source negates the effect.

The effect lasts as long as the bard continues the performance up to a a maximum of 1 hour. Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability.

The bard can use either audible or sight components; he chooses when activating the ability.
Caper   ♦   sound language
Level 3rd; Replaces inspire competence
Action standard attack or full attack (fight defensively); Maintain Yes
Description
A bard can make himself less of a target to enemies. When using the fight defensively action (see PFRPG Core Rulebook), the bard may choose a number of targets equal to this Cha modifier (minimum 1); these targets must make a Will save (DC = 10 + ½ the bard's level + the bard's Charisma modifier), if the save fails the target cannot attack the bard that round.
Chant of Fortitude   ♦   sight sound
Level 3rd; Replaces inspire competence
Action immediate; Maintain Yes
Description
All allies within 60 feet automatically stabilize as long as the bard continues this performance. At 10th level, each living ally within 60 feet with 0 or fewer hit points recovers a number of hit points each round equal to the bard's level as long as he continues this performance.
Dance Motley   ♦   sight sound language
Level 6th; Replaces suggestion
Action standard; Maintain Yes
Description
A bard can distract enemies within 30 feet, causing them to be flat-footed for one round. If the bard maintains the performance on subsequent rounds, each enemy within range receives a Will save (DC = 10 + ½ the bard's level + the bard's Charisma modifier) to resist the effect at the beginning of its turn each round. If its saving throw fails, the creature remains flat-footed for another round. If the saving throw succeeds, that creature is immune to the bards dance motley for 24 hours.

All undead with fewer hit dice than the bard within 30 feet must make a Will save (DC = 10 + ½ the bard's level + the bard's Charisma modifier) or enter a motionless, comatose, sleep-like state, rendering them helpless. Targets will "awaken" if attacked or damaged in any way. Free-willed undead (or Intelligent undead, if you prefer) rendered helpless by song of eternal rest receive an additonal Will save from loud noises nearby.
